LAURENS COUNTY— Angela Cain, age 47, died on March 21 after being struck by a car while walking along Ben Hall Lake Drive.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. A northbound blue Toyota Camry left the roadway and hit Cain before fleeing.
Cain was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later located the car two miles away. They arrested a 45-year-old man who is being held at Laurens County Jail. Georgia State Patrol confirmed that drug and alcohol tests were conducted and results are pending.
The crash remains under investigation by Georgia State Patrol.

2049 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2016 — a 62 percent increase from 2009, the last year in which a downward trend was recorded. AAA said the data makes 2016 the deadliest year since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.
