MCHENRY COUNTY— Ann Song, age 89, tragically lost her life on March 16 following a head-on crash during severe snow conditions in McHenry County.
Authorities reported the crash occurred around 9:26 a.m. along Route 176 in Seneca Township, located east of Marengo and north of Union. Song was a passenger in a Mazda CX-5 traveling westbound when it collided head-on with an eastbound Kia Sportage. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and came to rest on the roadway.
Responders arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on Song. Emergency crews transported her to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley, where she was pronounced deceased. The crash injured four others, including three critically, but a medical helicopter could not be deployed due to the weather.
Heavy snow and whiteout conditions, which drastically reduced visibility, are believed to have contributed to the crash.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit continues investigating.
