WAGONER COUNTY— Baylor Butler, age 31, of Muskogee, and Stevie Carter, age 26, of Gore, died Monday morning in a crash on the Muskogee Turnpike.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. near Porter in Wagoner County. Butler and Carter were passengers in a Ford Fusion involved in a crash with a Ford F-450 truck. The Fusion was severely damaged upon impact, and both Butler and Carter were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Fusion was critically injured and taken to a Tulsa hospital for treatment. The driver of the F-450 was unharmed.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, there were 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2018 in which 36,560 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.
