DALLAS—Bonifacio Lozano, 58, died Friday night after a hit-and-run crash in South Dallas. The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the Municipal Street exit along eastbound U.S. Highway 175.
Authorities said Lozano was standing next to his pickup truck when a vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Investigators identified debris from the crash as that of a gray 2009-2013 Toyota Corolla, which likely has front passenger-side damage and is missing its right passenger mirror.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Unit is searching for the driver and continues to investigate the incident. Officials urge anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office.

2049 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2016 — a 62 percent increase from 2009, the last year in which a downward trend was recorded. AAA said the data makes 2016 the deadliest year since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.
