CHICAGO— Calvin Winfield, age 48, tragically lost his life on March 30 after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 94 in Chicago.
Police reported the incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. near 115th Street. Authorities stated Winfield exited his vehicle after a crash and stood in the southbound lane. Another vehicle struck him and left the scene without stopping.
The medical examiner confirmed Winfield died at the scene from his injuries.
Chicago police continue to investigate the hit-and-run.

2049 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2016 — a 62 percent increase from 2009, the last year in which a downward trend was recorded. AAA said the data makes 2016 the deadliest year since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.
