NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C.— A dirt bike accident at Smith Creek Park injured a young child on April 2 as investigations continue.
Officials stated that a dirt bike operated by Camren Crème, 18, struck a 5-year-old boy riding a scooter. Emergency responders transported the boy to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment of significant injuries.
Law enforcement charged Crème with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, a felony offense under North Carolina law. Authorities confirmed motorized vehicles, including dirt bikes, are prohibited in all county parks.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
The statistics are staggering: Approximately 6,227 pedestrians died in the U.S. in 2018, and even more injured, an increase of 250 from a year earlier, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.
This incident underscores the dangers that pedestrians face every day in this country. The cause of many of these accidents is negligent driving, distracted driving, or drivers failing to yield to pedestrians.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney and a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
“An examination of road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting is crucial. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
