ST. LOUIS—A crash in St. Louis killed 31-year-old Candice Cherell Swearengen on Sunday, authorities here reported.
Police said a 23-year-old driver of a Mazda 6 was speeding southbound on N. Broadway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed the centerline shortly after 10 p.m.
Consequently, the Mazda struck a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Swearengen, and a Chevrolet Malibu, both traveling north on N. Broadway near Calvary Avenue. The impact caused the Jeep Wrangler to overturn.
Emergency responders transported Swearengen to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. A 5-month-old infant traveling with her survived and remains in critical condition, police stated.
Authorities reported that the other vehicle’s driver and three juveniles sustained injuries described as “stable” and were also hospitalized.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details about the crash have not been released.
