EMERALD TOWNSHIP—David Stevens, 44, and Hunter Walters, 24, sustained injuries in a crash on Mar. 4 in Emerald Township. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:41 p.m. on US 24 near milepost 18.
Authorities reported that a 62-year-old man’s vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 24 when it crossed through the grass median and entered the eastbound lanes. The Malibu collided with Stevens’ 2024 GMC Sierra, causing the Sierra to continue off the right side of the roadway and overturn.
Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene. Stevens and Walters, who was a passenger in the Sierra, were both transported to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries. They are currently listed in stable condition.
The man driving the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, with assistance from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Paulding Fire and EMS, Defiance Fire and Rescue, Paulding County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Hague Towing and Repair, continues to investigate the incident.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the factors that led to this tragic event.
