BROOKLYN—A crash on Van Sinderen Avenue in Brooklyn on Feb. 27 claimed the life of 26-year-old Imani Vance. Authorities reported that Tyree Epps, 32, was speeding south in a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300 when he ran a stop sign at Blake Avenue around 1 p.m.
Epps struck the rear driver’s side of an eastbound school bus, which was then pushed into a parked box truck. After the crash, Epps fled the scene in a taxi, leaving Vance, his front-seat passenger, in the car with severe head trauma.
Medics rushed Vance to Brookdale University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The 57-year-old woman driving the school bus was hospitalized in stable condition.
Arrest made
Police later arrested Epps, a resident of East New York. He faces charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and driving without a license.
A Brooklyn Criminal Court judge ordered him held without bail.
