FORSYTH COUNTY— Jean Holbrook, age 72, died on March 6 after a two-vehicle accident at Highway 9 and Atlanta Highway in Forsyth County.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 8:17 a.m. Holbrook was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe when a Volkswagen Passat struck her vehicle. Officials noted that the Volkswagen had significant front-end damage. Emergency crews extricated Holbrook from her heavily damaged vehicle before transporting her to Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center for treatment.
Hospital officials said Holbrook went into cardiac arrest twice before arriving at the facility. At the hospital, she suffered a third cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly before 11 a.m.
Deputies identified the Volkswagen driver as a 24-year-old nurse. She admitted to falling asleep while driving home after three consecutive night shifts. Authorities charged her with homicide by vehicle in the second degree, and she was taken to the Forsyth County Jail.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
