IRVING—Joseph Habeeb, A 72-year-old Dallas resident, died in a crash on Mar. 2 in Irving. Habeeb had parked his car with a flat tire on the shoulder of the 1400 block of E. State Highway 114 WB.
Authorities reported that a 27-year-old male suspect from Dallas, driving at high speed and in multiple lanes, crashed into Habeeb’s parked car. The impact killed Habeeb.
Police transported the suspect to Parkland Hospital. The suspect admitted to drinking three to four beers at a restaurant before driving. He rated himself a 7 on a 0-10 scale of intoxication and could not remember the crash.
Authorities charged the suspect with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. He was released from the Dallas County Jail on Monday after posting a $100,000 bond.
The investigation by the Irving Police Department remains ongoing.
