HALL COUNTY— Julie Griffith, age 35, of Cornelia, died on March 13 from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash occurred on March 5 at approximately 2 p.m. on Interstate 985 near the Atlanta Highway overpass. Officials said a 46-year-old Clarkesville man failed to brake for slowing traffic, causing a pileup involving multiple vehicles.
Emergency responders transported five victims from the crash, including Griffith, to a nearby hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities arrested the Clarkesville man and charged him with first-degree homicide by vehicle. He also faces misdemeanor charges for reckless driving, distracted driving, following too closely, and defective equipment. Officials confirmed he remains in jail without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
