COLORADO SPRINGS— Melissa Nielsen sustained serious injuries on Mar. 8 when an alleged impaired driver hit her vehicle head-on on N. Academy Boulevard.
Authorities said Nielsen was driving home after visiting a friend when a car crossed into oncoming traffic near Constitution Avenue and struck her. The crash left Nielsen with broken legs, ankles, an injured kneecap and multiple ribs. She also suffered punctured lungs.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the driver, a 33-year-old local man. No arrests were made as of Sunday.
The case remains under investigation by Colorado Springs police.
