The man who was fatally struck in Oildale has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Dominick Long of Bakersfield by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The incident occurred on July 12 just after 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Universe Avenue and Chester Avenue, prompting a response from the California Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Long was walking in the westbound lane of Universe Avenue when an unidentified vehicle, traveling at an unknown speed, hit him and then fled the scene.
Long was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP is investigating.
It is currently unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Michael Dominick may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
