HENDERSON COUNTY— Phillip Buchanan, age 42, was cited for reckless driving Monday after a 16-vehicle pileup stopped traffic on Interstate 26.
Officials said traffic was stopped near milepost 55 around 8 a.m. due to debris in the roadway. A tractor-trailer, driven by Buchanan, failed to slow down, causing it to lose control. The truck hit a barrier and struck 15 other vehicles.
Three people were transported to hospitals for injuries, none of which were life-threatening, according to authorities.
North Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
