ESCAMBIA COUNTY—A head-on crash on U.S. Highway 31 injured Sarah E. Janes, 31, of Atmore, on Feb. 25. Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. near milepost 38, about one mile west of Atmore.
Investigators reported that Janes was driving a 2015 Cadillac SRX when it collided with a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency responders transported Janes to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., for treatment of her injuries.
A 2-year-old juvenile passenger in Janes’s vehicle sustained critical injuries and later died on March 1 while receiving treatment at a hospital. Another juvenile passenger in the Cadillac and several individuals in the Chrysler were also injured and transported to local hospitals.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate the incident.
