ATLANTA— Vernon Thomas survived a hit-and-run accident Monday afternoon while crossing 10th Street at Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta.
Atlanta police said the accident occurred just after 2:45 p.m. at one of the iconic rainbow crosswalks. A light-colored vehicle hit Thomas, sending him into the air before the driver fled the scene.
Officers later identified and cited a 24-year-old woman for leaving the scene of the accident.
Emergency responders transported Thomas to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he continued to recover as of Thursday afternoon. Police said the intersection has seen multiple pedestrian accidents recently.
An investigation is ongoing by the Atlanta Police Department.
