MIRAMAR—Hugo Batista, age 18, was injured in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bicycle in Miramar on March 1, authorities reported.
The crash occurred Saturday evening on Pembroke Road near Arcadia Drive.
According to Miramar Police, Batista was struck by a work van while cycling in his neighborhood. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Batista with significant injuries.
Batista suffered road rash as well as a wrist broken in two places.
Detectives located a suspect later that evening at an address in Miramar. Investigators said they also found a vehicle at the location that showed damage consistent with the crash.
Police reported that the suspect admitted to being involved in the hit-and-run. However, as of late Sunday night, authorities had not disclosed what charges the suspect may face.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing as police work to gather additional evidence. Updates may follow as more details are released.
