REEVES COUNTY, Texas— Authorities are investigating a tractor-trailer accident on April 20 that killed one driver and injured another.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 285. Officials said a northbound 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer experienced a defective front left tire, causing the driver to lose control and cross into oncoming traffic. The Kenworth collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer.
Authorities identified Uriel Primitivo Vazquez, the 41-year-old driver of the Freightliner, as one of the individuals involved. Emergency responders transported Vazquez to Reeves Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
The Kenworth driver, a 26-year-old man from Oklahoma, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Freightliner was also struck by another Kenworth tractor-trailer traveling closely behind. The third driver was not injured. Law enforcement confirmed all drivers were wearing seatbelts during the accident.
The investigation remains ongoing by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

CRASH INVESTIGATION
Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, said in such cases, it’s imperative to have an independent investigation conducted promptly to protect a victim’s rights.
“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, who is a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
“A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent truck driver.
“Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting drivers’ background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
